Landscape
Grasslands National Park is the only national park in Canada to represent the mixed-grass prairie eco-region. Currently there is less than 17% of native prairie remaining in Saskatchewan. The largest intact section of native prairie is found in Grasslands National Park.
Home to a herd of Plains Bison, Grasslands National Park is the only place in Canada where you can see Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs and Black Footed Ferrets in their native habitat. Grasslands is a wildlife watchers paradise; home to over 15 species at risk, over 200 bird species and rare reptiles such as the Prairie Rattlesnake or the Greater Short Horned Lizard.
To help protect this unique area and its species, the park is involved in many recovery actions, research and monitoring programs and public education.
Prairie Learning Centre participants use Grasslands National Park as their classroom. They can explore the depths of the badlands, discover rare animals or learn first hand about this fragile ecosystem. There is no where else in Canada that is so rich in biodiversity and cultural history!
