Achievements 2005 - 2011
Through the support of all of our partners, the PLC has accomplished the following (2010 - 2011):
- Offered 51 learning opportunities using student centered approach to learning as demonstrated in feedback from participant PLC programs align with the ministry’s new approach to curriculum development. Programs increase student awareness, relevance, connection and engagement to more effectively deliver curriculum.
- Leveraged partnerships through the engagement of 26 facilitators to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for students.
- Continues to show growth by reaching more students in the 2010-11 school year than in any other programming year.
- Renewed a three year commitment between the Chinook School Division and Grasslands National Park.
- Hosted a sweat ceremony to bring together Cree Elders, the OTC, Chinook School Division and Grasslands National Park in furthering First Nations/Métis Education in our region.
- 16 schools from across South-West Saskatchewan have participated in PLC programming in the 2010-2011 school year.
- 14 of 17 possible high schools in Chinook School Division took part in PLC programming in the 2010-11 school year.
- Provided in-school programs in the fall of 2010 about species at risk for 10 schools in the Chinook School Division reaching 327 students
Past Accomplishments: 2005 - 2010
- Reached over 1800 students through delivering curriculum linked workshops on the native prairie;
- Developed an International Grasslands Education Project (IGEP) for schools in
Saskatchewan and .Montana - Conducted 100 hours of “Prairie Skills” Special Credit Course for Grade 9 Students;
- Developed four cornerstones for outdoor studies program: prairie skills, prairie ecology, prairie community, prairie arts;
- Developed course “Prairie Management and Conservation Studies 20/30 and given formal approval to pilot the course in four schools.
- Hosted three teachers’ institutes for professional development.
- Facilitated Biology 20 (Grade 11 Biology) course with a grassland ecosystem focus to students in the Chinook School Division through four outdoor excursions to
.Grasslands National Park - Engaged First Nations Elders to assist in learning more about the prairie landscape.
- Hosted over 50 students to witness the First Black-Footed Ferret Reintroduction in the Canadian. (
on October 2nd, 2009).Grasslands National Park - Partnered with Saskatchewan Watershed Authority to deliver Project Wet and Project Wild for educators.
- Developed an annual Spring/ Fall Outdoor Learning Program and Marketing Brochure.
