Students from Saskatoon Outdoor School, Swift Current Comprehenisive High School Outdoor Club, Val Marie School and Wadena School release Black-footed Ferrets in Grasslands National Park! This was the third and final release in Canada. The Black-footed Ferret is considered to be one of North America's most endangered mammal. A Species at Risk Talk on top of 70 Mile Butte, a beautiful sunset and of course the cute ferrets were highlights of this event!
Students helped release ferrets onto prairie dog colonies. Most students were able to see Black-tailed Prairie Dogs, Bison and Deer on their way out to their release sites.
All students were able to participate; note taking, using a GPS, carrying a ferret or actually releasing a ferret. Every release team had a representative from Grasslands National Park and a biologist from Parks Canada, Toronto Zoo or US Fish and Wildlife.

The Black-footed Ferret is North America's most endangered mammal. After a successful reintroduction in Grasslands National Park, October 2009, the ferret is on the road to recovery. A milestone in this recovery was when the first set of kits are born in the wild. Watch this video to see a mother and her three kits! Otherwise, click here to watch it on youtube.
